LOCATION SCOUTING FOR FILMS?
SoHoSoleil’s loft locations offer an array of options including TV, video, celebrity interviews and rehearsals for theatrical productions. An advantage is that CornerLight and SereneSite are one floor apart in the very same building. Clients regularly book both spaces simultaneously, one for hair and make-up, craft service, wardrobe, etc. the other for filming.
Set managers location scouting for films search for suitable shooting spaces with added value. SoHoSoleil’s studios are focused for ease in production with open layouts and easily moveable furnishings. CornerLight also has an exterior ramp from the sidewalk into the lobby. From there a large freight elevator opens directly into the loft. The vintage diner booths and 30+ year-old Ficus tree have found their way into many colorful pictures. Clients’ also appreciate the extra-large windows that provide unobstructed city views and bring in an abundance of natural light.
These prime creative sites for photo sessions feature full open kitchens, island counters and gas ranges. Chefs and food stylists have plenty of room to mix, bake, broil and display. Famed chefs Drew Nieporent, Gabrielle Hamilton, and Sandra Lee have made unforgettable personal appearances. Additionally food programs for television, PSAs, and the Internet, have favored these SoHo loft locales multiple times. Some of the most innovative talents in the food world have brought repeat business to the venues.
The historic cast-iron buildings’ exteriors and cobblestone streets below are ideal for outdoor or out-the-window shoots. The facades’ huge ledges come in handy when photos and videos are shot from above. Film producers have also made use of the long fire escapes abutting both MeetingSite and CornerLight.
SoHoSoleil’s bathrooms have provided unique opportunities for location scouting photography. They have been rented for several hilarious scenes. HBO even shot part of a documentary series in CornerLight’s huge sunken bathtub! Photography directors and location scouts come to the properties, for their high ceilings, and to find the types of creative sites for photo sessions that trend setters and producer’s request.
For over a quarter century location scouts, managers and camera crews have found the CornerLight loft right in the crosshairs of their particular production needs. These “space detectives”, ever on the search for venues, frequently share contact information about SoHoSoleil with other colleagues in the film ready services. In fact a great portion of SoHoSoleil’s bookings come from referrals by other past visitors location scouting for films.
Many in the talent management, casting and film industries also appreciate the lofts for their privacy. From the outside of the 250+ year-old properties it’s impossible to tell that there are celebrities being interviewed and videotaped within. Sadly some of SoHoSoleil’s most famous guests have passed away. The crew remembers times with David Bowie and Joan Rivers most fondly.
